Sowing Seeds at Cascade Elementary School
1. The students turn soil and add compost in preparation for planting.
2. Sprinkling seeds directly in the soil is a good way to start many plants.
3. Planting seedlings is best for starting some varieties.
4. Pulling weeds is almost always necessary!
5. Students take turns watering the garden when no rain is forecast.
6. Any plants that are out of season or are no longer producing, as well as vegetable and fruit scraps from cooking activities, are put in the compost pile.
7. Teamwork is a must.
8. Students collect soil to test for the nutrients present.
9. Comparing results from a home test conducted on-site and a soil sample sent to the county extension service will help to determine which organic soil amendments are necessary to keep our plants healthy.
10. Many hands make quick work of the harvest.
11. So proud to show what they grew.
