C. E. Mendez Foundation Too Good for Violence
Curriculum Character Education Objectives and Activities Grades
K-8
Historically, it has been the right and responsibility of public
schools to teach values and provide character education. That right
and responsibility continues today. Without these lessons, today's
children will take over tomorrow's positions of trust in our society
with a startling lack of commitment to the principles of trustworthiness,
honesty, responsibility, fairness, compassion, and civic duty.
The need for developing character in our children is widely accepted
in the mind and heart of individuals around the country. Local and
national government/school officials, parents and other community
individuals agree that character traits should be taught to children.
Consequently, in many states, the House of Representatives has
passed a Bill to support the implementation of comprehensive character
education programs in school systems.
The C. E. Mendez Foundation recognizes the need for assisting schools
in providing opportunities for building "character" in
students in a classroom setting. The Too Good for Violence
curriculum is a primary prevention program for K-12th grade that
empowers students, teachers and parents to live without violence.
It is based on the latest research in risk and protective factors.
